DSS Converter was originally designed to convert DSS audio files produced by a Philips Pocket Memo 9600. This audio format is used in professional dictation machines manufactured by Olympus and Philips, and they are not an easy file to convert using regular applications available online.

Since it was originally designed, I've updated the conversion engine used in DSS Converter to ffmpeg, which has the capability to convert between a wide range of common audio file formats and the app accepts files with the following extensions:

• .aac Advanced Audio Coding
• .aiff Audio Interchange File Format
• .dss Digital Speech Standard (not DSS Pro)
• .flac Free Lossless Audio Codec
• .m4a MPEG 4 Audio
• .mp3 MPEG-2 Audio Layer III
• .ogg Ogg Vorbis
• .wav Waveform Audio File

Other features include:

• Drag and drop any audio file into the list and if it's a format that can be converted, it will be listed.
• Add one or many files to convert. Remove a file with the right-click context menu.
  
• Converted files are saved to the same location as the original file.
  
• A clean and simple user interface. The main window is DPI aware, resizeable and customisable to suit your screen and the amount of data you need to view. There are no more controls than necessary to do the job, and everything has hover-enabled help popups that describes what it does. The application will remember your customisation between program launches.
• Click the App information bottom right of the window to recall important folder locations and change settings.

The range of formats accepted as input and available as output is designed into the app, but it is possible to convert between other formats. Drop me a line if you need to include a particular audio format and I'll see what I can do.
