The cable chains are an integral part of the printer but not supplied with the kit. Makers Tool Works are vague about the parts required, so I've re-supplied the components clearly marked so you can build the assembly more easily

Makers Tool Works provides some basic parts to attach the filament tube to the frame, but on the left hand side it interferes with the cable chain. This more elegant solution is provided for both sides of the machine

The cables connecting the heated bed to the controller run loose underneath the printer and can become snagged in the frame. This solution provides a channel to secure these cables to the existing support structure of the machine

The MendelMax 3 is supplied with some pretty LED indicator lights fitted to the top crossbar and in the printer base. The controller unit contains a power convertor and an arduino CPU. This modification provides a housing for these components attached to the base frame.

I was asked by Makers Tool Works to review the MendelMax 3. This is the review I sent them, written with prospective buyers in mind, particularly those based in Europe, and contains information about importing and assembly that you won't easily find elsewhere

An alternative to the smart controller supplied by Makers Tool Works is one supplied by Geeetech and is very modestly priced. This enclosure is designed specifically for that board, together with an elegant and unobtrusive method of attaching it to the machine.

Makers Tool Works supplies a long bolt in their kit to hang spools of filament. Does the job, but here is a better solution. Requires M8 threaded rods and 22mm skateboard bearings.

An area overlooked by Makers Tool works, these simple plug-in holders secure the filament guide at the extruder end
